Minister suggests possible use for prison site

The old prison site in Victoria Road, Douglas could be used as a future base for the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service.

In the House of Keys today (Tuesday), Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw said he hoped a decision on the future of the building could be made soon.

Mr Earnshaw said he had tried to find new uses for the existing buildings, but none could be found.

He told members there was currently a proposal that two of the buildings on the site should be placed on the protected buildings register, but he felt the land should be cleared to allow for redevelopment:
