35 TEACHERS in the Island have been successful in completing further leadership and management training.
Nineteen teachers completed Level 2 training which is aimed at those who have responsibility for leading an area of the curriculum or another distinct aspect of primary school life.
The programme was run throughout the last academic year and involved teachers attending four days of training as well as completing assignments and an assessed task.
A further 16 teachers completed Level 3 training which is aimed at teachers who have strategic leadership and management responsibilities in school.
This programme runs over two years and involves eight days of training as well as a range of school-based tasks and a written assessment.
Some of the teachers are using their assignments to contribute to achieving the Post Graduate Certificate in School Leadership and Management which the Department of Education and Children is now offering in partnership with the University of Chester.
Martin Barrow, senior adviser for the Department of Education and Children, said: "The overall package of training makes a significant contribution to ensuring that teachers are well equipped to take on roles as deputy head teachers and head teachers in the future should they wish to."
Both programmes are being repeated this academic year.
