A ceremony has taken place in Jurby to mark the start of work on the new doctors' surgery and community centre at the site of the old Jurby Hotel.
After much debate, the go-ahead to spend ?1.64 million on the scheme was finally given by Tynwald last month, following opposition from those who believed two smaller facilities should be built, one in Jurby and the other in Kirk Michael.
After the sod cutting, Health Minister David Anderson said it had been a long time coming, but he was convinced the north of the Island would benefit from the facililty for years to come:
