THE work of a cameraman who made his mark on cinema history was highlighted at a special event at Peel Centenary Centre on Friday night.
Films in Peel screened Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff - a fascinating documentary about the cinematographer whose superb work in Technicolor made him very much in demand in Hollywood.
He worked with many Hollywood superstars during his lengthy career - everyone from Ava Gardner to Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Camerman is a brilliant film which features interviews with acting legends and film experts about Jack's work - as well as with Jack himself.
Jack, who also directed a number of films, worked as a cinematographer on the classic Powell and Pressburger films A Matter of Life and Death, Black Narcissus and the Red Shoes.
One of those interviewed in the film is Professor Ian Christie, Professor of Film and Media History at Birkbeck College, London, who was actually a special guest at the Peel screening and introduced the film.
Professor Christie showed some amateur footage he had taken himself of Jack Cardiff and talked about the influence Jack had on Martin Scorsese and others as well as answering questions from the audience.
It was a highly interesting night for all those who braved the bad weather and Professor Christie's insight into Jack's work and life and related subjects was a delight to listen to.
The night was run with support from the Isle of Man Arts Council.
