A LOCAL resident is preparing to take part in an 11 day trek through Nepal to raise money for the charity Help for Heroes.
Anneka Rae, will be leaving the Isle of Man on Thursday, November 4, to take part in the event which travels through the foothills of Nepal's Annapurna mountain range.
She is one of 37 volunteers from across the British Isles to sign up for the trek which will raise money for the rehabilitation of injured troops.
To date the group has raised in excess of £70,000 for the Help for Heroes charity.
Anneka said: "I wanted to do something to help those returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan with physical and or mental injuries. Preparing to trek through Nepal has helped me to raise awareness of the charity here in the Isle of Man as well as raising thousands of pounds that will go directly to Help for Heroes."
The group will travel to Kathmandu before setting out to base camp at Pokhara. Assisted by a group of Sherpers they will climb 2,800 metres to Tara Top for incredible views of the Annapurna mountain range.
Anneka has worked in the accounts department at Continent 8 Technologies Headquarters and Data Centre in Douglas for the last two years.
Paul Watterson, director of finance at Continent 8, said: "Being able to support Anneka doing such a physically challenging trek in aid of our injured forces is something we were only too happy to be involved in.
"Through our sponsorship Anneka was able to secure her place on the trek and dedicate her efforts to training and fund raising. We wish her all the best of luck during her challenge."
