A Manx travel agent is advising holidaymakers flying from the Isle of Man to choose their resort carefully, to avoid the sharp increase in air passenger duty imposed by the United Kingdom government.
Four new bands of duty come into force today (Monday), based on miles travelled by air.
The tax on flights to destinations between 2,000 and 4,000 miles away will jump by 33 per cent, or an extra ?60 per person, on the average economy ticket.
What began as a 'green' tax to offset carbon emissions will generate around ?2.3 billion for the UK Exchequer.
