The Isle of Man celebrates Hop tu Naa

by isleofman.com 31st October 2010

WHILE America, Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom celebrate Halloween today (Sunday)  the Isle of Man marks an even older tradition.

Hop tu Naa is a celebration of the original Celtic New Year's Eve and the festival pre-dates Halloween.

Many children will be dressed up going door to door with the aim of receiving sweets or money.

It is traditional for them to carry turnip lanterns and sing Hop tu Naa songs rather than carry pumpkins which are associated with Halloween.
