THE Middle River cycle path has been officially opened.
The cycle path, which runs alongside Douglas River between the Nunnery and the Middle River Industrial Estate, has been renovated by Staff from Britannia International in collaboration with Douglas Development Partnership, The One World Centre, Friends of the Earth and Transition Isle of Man.
Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne MHK officially opened the cycle track in front of members of the public and volunteers who had worked hard to give the path a new lease of life.
Britannia International's managing director Mark Beresford said: "I'd like to personally thank Mr Gawne for attending and officially opening the cycle path. The occasion marked the end of a significant amount of work and planning by the organisations involved.
"This has been a enjoyable and rewarding community project to be involved in and a great initiative from the Douglas Development Partnership and the One World Centre.
"I hope that the renovation has helped make people more aware of the path and that many people get to benefit and enjoy the route along the river."
Chris Pycroft of Douglas Development Partnership said: "The cycle path renovation has been a great example of businesses and organisations co-operating for the good of the community.
"These community driven initiatives are crucial to improving the image and environment in and around Douglas and wouldn't be possible without the help of local businesses and organisations."
The renovation work included clearing away overgrown vegetation, digging out drainage channels and laying a heavy duty surface that will stand up to regular cycle use.
