MAJOR improvement works on one of the busiest junctions in Onchan will take until next year to complete.
Motorists using Signpost Corner will face disruption to their journeys until January as work is carried out to improve the water drainage system and to modify the roundabout.
The mini roundabout at the junction does not meet current design standards and the Department of Infrastructure has had complaints about motorists cutting across the roundabout and the lack of visibility on the approach.
The centre circle and give way markings will be relocated and the forward visibility will be improved towards Onchan for motorists approaching from the Bedstead Corner direction.
Removable islands and bollards will be installed on the approaches to the roundabout to deter motorists from cutting straight across the centre circle. These will be removed for the TT and MGP festivals.
The improvement scheme will also address the lack of a road surface water drainage system which has resulted in rainwater flowing across the road to an open drainage ditch.
A combined kerb and drainage system will be installed which will collect rainwater from the road and direct it into a soakway under the grass verge.
The work will be split into two stages to minimise inconvenience to drivers.
From Monday, November 8, to Friday, December 17, traffic signals will be used during working hours on Monday to Saturday.
From Monday, January 10, to Saturday, January 22, the junction will be closed to traffic from 9am to 4.30pm on Monday to Saturday.
The Department of Infrastructure have apologised for any inconvenience to motorists, residents, and pedestrians whilst these essential works are carried out.
