Manx teenager dies in road accident in Yorkshire

A 19-year-old Manx student has been run over and killed by a police car in Sheffield.

Jamie Haslett from Onchan was studying at the city's Hallam University.

The accident happened at 3.45am today (Wednesday) when the police car, from the South Yorkshire force, was escorting an ambulance carrying a patient.

The United Kingdom's Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating the incident.

Representatives have already met with Jamie's family and enquiries are under way to determine the circumstances of the tragedy.

IPCC Commissioner Nicholas Long says his thoughts are with Jamie's family at this difficult time.
