An MHK is considering his options, after his bill proposing a publicly elected chief minister was unceremoniously booted out by the House of Keys.
South Douglas member Bill Malarkey wanted candidates to declare their intention of going for the 'top job' in advance of a general election, and the electorate to vote for the chief minister at the same time as they chose their constituency MHKs.
The idea limped through its second reading, but it fell at the very first hurdle when it reached the clauses stage.
Mr Malarkey told James Davis he was frustrated, but not surprised:
