Child care review needed now

by isleofman.com 25th October 2010

An East Douglas MHK has vowed to keep pressing for an external review of the Island’s childrens’ services.

A public inquiry into the deaths of 16-year-olds Samantha Barton and George Green - who were murdered, the former while in the care of social services – recommended the inspections, but five years later one has yet to be held.

In Tynwald last week, Social Care Minister Martyn Quayle told the court the department needs to inspect itself without making findings public until it’s ready for external evaluation.

But Chris Robertshaw says he’s not satisfied with the department’s stance.
