No investigation into bus changes

by isleofman.com 21st October 2010

Proposals to have a full investigation into how the Island’s new bus timetables were planned and introduced have been derailed by Tynwald.

In the chamber last night (Wednesday), North Douglas MHK John Houghton kept up the pressure on the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure by asking for a select committee to be set up.

The three-man committee would have looked into how the new network was planned, what consultation there was and how bus drivers felt about the new system.

The move was the latest effort by Mr Houghton to delve further into the new network, which he’s previously said had decimated services in Willaston.

During the debate, he cited a number of people who’d complained to him over the changes – but a number of other MHKs including Onchan’s David Quirk and Glenfaba’s David Anderson said they’d approached the minister with problems which were being addressed.

Community, Culture and Leisure Minister David Cretney said he was still in the process of fine-tuning the system and would have a review after it had been running for three months.

Members voted against forming the committee – something Mr Houghton said afterwards he was very disappointed with.
