MHK fails to derail Summerland sale

North Douglas MHK John Houghton is accusing members of Tynwald of a lack of interest in developing leisure facilities, after a debate about the future of the Summerland site.

In Tynwald last night, he tried to persuade members to stop the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure selling the land, at the northern end of Douglas promenade, to developers.

But his motion was defeated, meaning the department can now apply for planning permission for housing, and negotiate with companies interested in building there.

Afterwards, Mr Houghton said he was disappointed not to have garnered more support:
