An unexpected debate has taken place in Tynwald on racism in the Isle of Man.
An amendment to update the Race Relations Act 2004 was thought likely to go through on the nod.
Instead it led to to a lively exchange of views on the level of racism in the Island, and what should be done to tackle it.
Rushen MHK Juan Watterson spoke out against any moves to increase the obligation on employers to tackle racism in the workplace (first part of audio file):

Chief Minister Tony Brown explained the motion was little more than a technicality, to update existing legislation.

Mr Brown won the day, and the amendment was later approved by Tynwald.
