Beef producer surprised by restructuring plan

The timing of potential changes at the Isle of Man's meat plant is 'very strange', according leading local beef producer Graham Crowe.

Last week, Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister John Shimmin described the current situation at the plant as 'unsustainable' and revealed his department was considering restructuring the facility.

The red meat derogation, which has protected the Island from cheaper foreign imports, is expected to end in the near future, and it’s thought attempts will be made to renegotiate government subventions.
