THE deadline for people applying for the chief secretary's job is fast approaching.
The closing date for the position - which carries a salary between £110,383 and £137,977 - is noon on Friday, November 5.
The current chief secretary, Mary Williams, will retire on December 31.
She has been in the post since November 2002 and has previously served as chief financial officer, chief executive officer of the Department of Home Affairs and chief internal auditor.
The job description states: "As head of an organisation with a workforce of over 10,000 people, net revenue spending on voted services of £535m this year and a capital budget of £96m, this is a challenging and influential position with diverse and wide ranging responsibilities and activities.
"These are:
"Supporting the chief minister in leading the Island's government and the Council of Ministers in the exercise of its functions and duties.
"Supporting His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor in his role in leading the exercise of crown functions and duties within the Island.
"Providing leadership and setting strategic direction for the Isle of Man Civil Service in the context of established policy, objectives and priorities and ensuring that the Civil Service maintains its capability to respond effectively to changing circumstances and development/shifts in government policy as they occur.
"Providing leadership and strategic direction in respect of the chief secretary's office."
It says the successful candidate will have at least five years' experience in a relevant strategic senior management role at chief executive or equivalent level, a proven track record in leadership and transformational change, advanced negotiating skills and be skilled at working in a political environment.
