ONE of the Island's telecoms providers marked the global energy campaign 10:10:10 by carrying out work on a woodland project in the Isle of Man.
Manx Telecom staff worked on the Conrhenny Woodlands Project and created paths and a picnic area at the plantation.
The Conrhenny Woodlands Project is a collaboration between the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA) and Manx Telecom.
The aim is to create a woodland which is accessibly to a broad section of the community.
More than 300 trees have already been planted around the perimeter of the site to improve the landscape and benefit the environment.
A three year commitment has been given to this project by Manx Telecom.
Tony Quayle, Manx Telecom access network and planning manager, is one of the project co-ordinators. He said: "The project is not just benefitting the environment but also the community.
"Staff who participate have some fun and find that it is a great team building exercise."
The 10:10:10 campaign is an initiative designed to get individuals, businesses and governments to pledge to reduce their carbon emissions by 10 per cent each year – starting in 2010.
This year Manx Telecom won a Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) award for reducing energy consumption and improving efficiency.
