St George’s extended their lead at the top of the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday.

They thrashed newly promoted Douglas Royal 6-1 as nearest rivals Peel and Old Boys drew 1-1.

The Geordies cruised to victory to open up a three point cushion as the big match at Douglas Road ended level.

Ciaran McNulty (two), James McStay (two) and Frank Jones were among the scorers for the leaders with Gavin Gawne netting the sole Royal goal.

Out west, Craig Stewart fired Old Boys in front before the break before Daniel Bell equalised in the second half.

The visitors finished with 10 men as John Quirk was dismissed for retaliating to a challenge but they held on for a point.

The shock of the day came as Corinthians won 1-0 at St Mary’s – talented youngster Danny Gerrard the match-winner.

The result didn’t significantly damage the Saints’ Railway Cup hopes as reigning champions Rushen were held to a 2-2 draw at newly promoted Ayre United.

Josh Kelly gave Rushen an early lead before goals either side of the break from Jason Craine and Chris Druggan fired the Tangerines in front.

In the end, a Mike Edge goal ensured both sides shared the spoils.

Laxey marked their centenary with a 3-1 home success over Gymns.
