Spooky happenings on the railways this Hop-tu-Naa

by isleofman.com 14th October 2010

DON'T be surprised if you hear blood curdling screams in Castletown later this month - Isle of Man Railways has organised a spooktacular event for Hop-tu-Naa.

Those daring enough to take part can endure a ride on the Ghost Train from Douglas to Castletown where they will then be escorted to Castle Rushen.

Once inside the Castle's dark passageways guests will experience a "Quartet of Horror" which features The Dungeon of Death, The Bloody Battle, The Hooded Hangman and The Headless Lord.

This adult only event takes place on Friday, October 29, and Saturday, October 30. The train will depart at 6.15pm dead.

Tickets cost £25 per person which includes a hot pot supper on return to Douglas Station. Passengers are requested to wrap up warm, bring a torch and wear sensible shoes.

For something more family friendly Isle of Man Railways are also running a Witches and Wizards Hop-tu-Naa Express which includes a train ride from Douglas to Castletown and a visit to the Witches Lair in Castle Rushen.

There will be a lucky dip, wizard's school, spooky story telling, a lotions and potions masterclass and a fancy dress competition.

Special guided tours where children can learn about the punishments handed out in the Isle of Man for witch crimes will also take place.

Trains depart on Saturday, October 30, from Douglas, at 10.55am and 12.50pm and return at 1.40pm and 3.40pm. A vintage bus will transfer passengers from Castletown Station.

The event costs £15 for adults and £5 for children.

Tickets for both events are available from the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal or by calling the Box Office on 01624 662525.
