DEFA working on revised red meat deal

Radical changes could be on the way at the Isle of Man's meat plant.

The red meat derogation, under which the Island receives favourable terms for the export of the product, is expected to end as 2010 draws to a close.

A statement endorsed by Minister for the Environment, Food and Agriculture John Shimmin says the current situation at the plant is unsustainable, and his department is investigating restructuring the facility to try and obtain a revised subvention deal.

Mr Shimmin says the industry has to move forward:
