Parents consider off-Island public school option

A former Ballakermeen High School teacher, now head of a public school in Cumbria, is hoping to win a new intake of students from the Isle of Man.

Headmaster of Sedbergh School Andrew Fleck, whose teaching career began on the Island 25 years ago, is meeting parents of prospective pupils today (Tuesday).

Mr Fleck was an outdoor pursuits teacher at Ballakermeen, remembered for his many adventurous sea kayaking trips as far away as the Galapagos Islands, Japan and Russia!

More than 30 Manx youngsters have boarded at Sedbergh in recent years, and today's reception at the Mount Murray Hotel will also be a reunion for Old Boys .

Mr Fleck says the visit is more than a recruitment drive:
