CURRAGHS Wildlife Park has announced a new addition to the park - three baby meerkats.
The park's resident meerkats, who arrived in the park in May, gave birth on Friday, September 3.
It has not been announced until now so that the adults had time to wean their young in order to give them the best chance of survival. Because of this they have not yet been named or sexed.
David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure, said: "As with any new arrival at the park until now we have been cautious about making any announcements about the birth of the baby meerkats. This was to give the parents time to wean their new babies and give them the best chance of survival.
"The babies were actually first seen over a week ago but with the heavy rain the meerkats changed their nesting burrow so we hadn't seen them again until the sunshine arrived last weekend.
"All the babies are in great health and will be in the Meerkat Enclosure (Close Beg) to greet visitors for the rest of the summer season."
Young meerkats are almost perfect miniatures of adults and the babies have already adopted the characteristic pose of standing on their hind legs to sunbathe or stand and watch over their surroundings.
Curraghs Wildlife Park is open from 10am to 6pm until the end of October.
