Badminton duo reach last 16

by isleofman.com 11th October 2010

Badminton players Josh Green and Matthew Wilkinson are through to the last 16 of the men’s doubles at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

They overcame the Ghanian pair of Mensa Nyarko and Daniel Sam 21-14, 18-21, 21-18 to progress.

That left Island interest alive in the competition after Cristen Callow bowed out in the women’s singles, losing to seventh seed Fu of Sinagpore, 12-21, 12-21.

Callow also teamed up with Green and battled hard in the mixed doubles with Northern Ireland’s Matthew Gleave and Sinead Chambers before going down 21-19, 13-21, 15-21.

The Sri Lankan pairing of Kumari Yapa Dahanayake and Thilini Jayasinghe also ended Callow and Kimberley Clague’s hopes in the women’s doubles with a 21-19, 21-8 victory.

Shooter Neil Parsons set a new Isle of Man record on day two of the individual Olympic Trap.

He finished 11th with 119/125, one target short of being involved in a shoot-out for the final six places. It was also a personal best.

Dave Walton also performed well to finish 20th, shooting 115/125.
