No plans to join LVP

The member of the House of Keys who resigned from her political position in the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure says she will remain as an independent MHK.

Brenda Cannell (East Douglas) had delegated responsibility for public transport, until she stood down at a public meeting, called to discuss the Island's new bus timetable, last month.

She said she hadn't been receiving any support or loyalty for her role within the department, and the furore which erupted in certain quarters over the revised schedules was the last straw.

Her decision was openly applauded by the Liberal Vannin Party.

Looking ahead, Mrs Cannell says she will wait and see what next year's general election brings but, while she often supports the stance taken by the party, she has no intention of joining it:
