THE Isle of Man's Alex Hedges finished 19th in the Men’s all-around individual final at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

His performance rounded off a successful couple of days for the Isle of Man Men's Gymnastic Team.

Having made the All-Around Final in Melbourne in 2006, the 24 year old Cambridge graduate came to Delhi determined to repeat the feat.

He qualified in Monday's team event in 21st position so was delighted to move up to 19th place in the final.

On his return to the Games Village he was in a buoyant mood.

Alex said: "It was fantastic today. I was able to relax and really enjoy the whole experience. I am doing harder routines than in Melbourne and every piece was clean today. No mistakes and it went really well."

Team manager Haresh Measuria said: "Alex will be very pleased with his performance. He's achieved a great score and improved on Monday's score.

"He's improved three positions on his finish on Monday. He's achieved all his ambitions for Delhi and put in a real ‘Captain's Innings’.”

Team mate Makunda Measuria had been hopeful of joining Alex in the final, having qualified as a reserve.

However none of the top 24 finalists dropped out so he was not required.
