THE Isle of Man's Steven Watterson had a frustrating day at the shooting range at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi today.
He was competing in the 10m air rifle event.
Shooting six sets of 10 shots, the Edinburgh-based research scientist could only manage a score of 572 – at least 10 or 12 below what he would have been hoping for.
Having started with a 98 for his first 10 shots, he was in ninth place at that point, but then he hit a bad patch and never recovered.
The standard was incredibly high, with the winner shooting a perfect 600 to equal the world record.
Steven said: "I'm obviously disappointed. I had hoped for much more today. It's a privilege to be shooting against this standard of competitor. Gagan Narang and Abhinav Bindra (gold and silver medallists) are world record holder and Olympic champion respectively."
Rifle team manager Peter Quirk said: "Steve has really worked hard in his preparation and training for these games.
"He'll clearly be unhappy with his score. Within two hours of the competition ending he was back out on the range practising."
