THE Manx Government has confirmed that holders of British Islands passports issued in the Isle of Man are free to travel to Romania without the need for a visa.
Clarification was called for after an Island resident was recently refused entry into the country.
The confirmation followed discussions between the External Relations Division of the Chief Secretary’s Office in the Isle of Man and the UK’s Identity and Passport Service and the Consular Department of the Embassy of Romania.
Richard Carter, senior external relations manager, said: "A difficulty arose as a result of a misunderstanding among borders authority officers at an airport in Romania.
"The matter has now been resolved and I would like to reassure local residents that passports issued in the Isle of Man continue to be a secure document for travel throughout the world."
A spokesman at the UK Home Office added: "UK citizens, and those from Crown Dependencies such as the Isle of Man, are entitled to visa-free travel to Romania."
