Local heroes recognised at gala ceremony

Everyday people who do extraordinary things were honoured at the Manx Radio Dreamcatcher Appeal Heroes in the Community Awards, at the Empress Hotel in Douglas on Friday night.

The gala ceremony saw the presentation of ten awards, in four categories.

They included carer of the year and bravest youngster, the latter prize going to Katie Shepherd who has a rare form of cancer which only occurs in children and young people (first part of audio file):

Maureen Masters was named grandparent of the year, having been nominated by her eight-year-old grandson, Rory (second part of audio file):
