Geordies win thriller

by isleofman.com 2nd October 2010

St George’s showed their title credentials for the second week running with an exciting 3-2 victory at St Mary’s on Saturday.

Goals from James McStay, Robin Bates and Chris Bass sealed victory for the Canada Life Premier League leaders after Tom Weir had given the Saints the lead.

Peel hit eight against newly promoted Douglas Royal to stay second.

A Kerron Christian hat-trick, two from Danny Bell and one each from Rob Cottier, Ryan Holdaway and Johnny Myers ensured an 8-0 romp at Douglas Road.

Old Boys secured a fine 2-1 win at Laxey, courtesy of goals from Gary Quirk and Callum Stewart.

The Miners found the net through Ashley Webster but it was Old Boys’ day as they improved their own Railway Cup hopes and made a big dent in Laxey’s aspirations.

There was a six goal thriller at Andreas as Ayre and Corinthians shared the spoils.

Jason Craine, Chris Duggan and James Teare were on target for the Tangerines with promising talent Danny Gerrard (two) and Max Neale scoring for the visitors.

Reigning champions Rushen saw off basement battlers Michael by the closest of scorelines at Balleira Road.

First half goals from Adam Cregeen and Jordan Watterson ensured a 2-1 victory. Dave Reynolds was the marksmen for the home side.

Gymns are still bottom after going down 2-1 at Ramsey.

A goal in each half from Lewis Qualtrough and Chris Halsall meant Nick Bowden’s reply wasn’t enough.
