Public urged to comment on postal services

by isleofman.com 1st October 2010

POSTAL workers who have provided the Isle of Man with exceptional customer care will be honoured with awards - but they first need to be nominated by the Manx public.

Local residents are being encouraged to share their experience of remarkable customer care from postal staff, as part of Isle of Man Post Office’s involvement in National Customer Service Week.

“We would like to invite customers to let us know of any experiences they have had with our staff regarding customer service,” said Lisa Duckworth, commercial director, Isle of Man Post Office.

“We aim to recognise and reward our staff and our ‘going the extra mile’ awards are a way of doing this. One of our main values is to treat our customers with respect and deal with them in an open and honest manner.

“We work hard to achieve this value and if customers are seeing excellent examples of this, it would be great to know about it and recognise the staff involved.”

Next week - October 4th -10th - sees UK National Customer Service Week which is organised by the Institute of Customer Services. The aim of the week is to raise awareness of customer service and the vital role it plays within organisations. It is also seen as an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of staff and to thank them for their everyday work in making a difference to customers.

During the week Isle of Man Post Office will be encouraging the practice of good customer care and promoting its ‘going the extra mile’ awards, both externally and internally, which were introduced last year.

The awards recognise employees who demonstrate outstanding customer service, initiative, attitude and team spirit and nominations can come from either a customer or manager/colleague.

Lisa added, “In Isle of Man Post Office each and every member of staff plays an important role whether out on delivery, in the retail network, mail centres or in sales etc, they are all dealing with customers in various ways and we know that customers’ impression of us and the brand as a whole is key to our success.”

In the 2009 survey both residential and business customers provided very positive results for Isle of Man Post Office staff:-

• 95% of residential customers rated the attitude of staff at Isle of Man Post Office  as

excellent/good

• 93% of residential customers rated the knowledge of postal services as excellent/good

• 93% of business customers said the open and honest manner in which they were dealt with
