Manx Guides to join in national centenary celebrations

by isleofman.com 1st October 2010

A MAJOR event is being planned for later this month to celebrate the centenary of the Girl Guide movement in the Isle of Man.

The celebrations are part of a nationwide programme of events when it is hoped all 500,000 members of Girlguiding UK will be involved in a video link-up via Sky, Virgin Media and the internet.

The chosen date for the celebrations is one of the unique days of the year - 20-20-2010. And they have chosen the time of 8.10pm (20:10) as the precise moment to link together for the special moment in the Girlguiding movement’s history.

“Vision” is planned as an event that will remain in the memories of those who attend for the rest of their lives when people will look back and be able to say: ‘I was there.’

In the Isle of Man the “Vision” event will take place at Onchan Youth and Community Centre from 6.15pm on October 20th.

A spokesman said, “‘Vision’ will mark the end of a year of celebrations for Girlguiding UK’s centenary year. Every Rainbow, Brownie, Guide, Senior Section and Adult member will be coming together for local events and the link up with all the UK members for the special moment at 8.10pm.”
