Ramsey residents air views on ASSI

The people of Ramsey heard the case for making the Ramsey estuary an area of special scientific interest last night (Thursday).

Environment chiefs want to preserve the estuary - regarded as a valuable habitat for wildlife - however, there’s concern such status could stifle development in the harbour area, including a possible marina.

The Department's scientists outlined their reasons for giving the area protection before Minister John Shimmin open the floor to questions.

Around 200 people attended the meeting and many took the opportunity to air their views:
