Douglas has picked up a Silver Gilt medal at the 2010 Britain in Bloom awards.
The prize was handed over at the Royal Horticultural Society's annual ceremony in Birmingham last night, when the Island's capital also received the Young People's Award.
In connection with the main prize, the judges said Douglas had worked diligently to implement suggestions made by the society's judges two years ago.
The other award was in recognition of 'an extensive range of youth projects', including the creation by teenagers of an area for free running, in an open space known as the 'Snake Pit; the creation by local Brownies of a floral rescue boat on the seafront; and the carpet bed in the sunken gardens, designed and planted by Girl Guides, to celebrate the centenary of their organisation.
Douglas was one of six finalists in the 'Town' section of the competition, which was won by the City of London.
The remaining five entries all received Silver Gilt medals.
