"Good luck" evening held for Commonwealth Games athletes

by isleofman.com 27th September 2010

MEMBERS of the Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Team were treated to a Bollywood style celebration before they left for Delhi at the weekend.

Britannia International held a "good luck" evening, at The Courthouse in Douglas, for the athletes that the company is sponsoring.

These included archer Sarah Rigby who has just achieved the official classification of Grand Master Bowman – the first Manx archer ever to have reached this level – and cyclists Tim Kennaugh and Mark Christian who are both members of the Great Britain Olympic Academy Programme.

Swimmer Grant Halsall also attended the event but sadly he will not be competing in the games after breaking his arm.

Mark Beresford, managing director of Britannia International in the Isle of Man, said: "We are very proud of our young athletes and delighted to recognise and celebrate their success in being selected for the Commonwealth Games and wish them, and the rest of the Isle of Man team, all the very best for Delhi."

Britannia International’s association with the Commonwealth Games started in 2002. Since then the company has supported the development of other athletes from the Isle of Man including cyclist Mark Cavendish and shooter Tim Kneale.
