Live cookery demonstrations at the Food and Drink Festival today

by isleofman.com 26th September 2010

VISITORS to today’s Food and Drink Festival have been treated to a master class in ice cream sundae making.

Roberto’s Geleteria, who are based in Port Erin, showed how to make the perfect sundae in the Manx Food Theatre this morning (Sunday).

The Manx company produce Gelato the Italian form of ice cream. The product contains less than 10 per cent fat and has less cream than normal dairy ice cream.

"Roberto" of Roberto’s said: "We’ve still left enough cream to make it tasty and smooth."

A number of ice cream sundaes were made, with a little audience participation, including a Peach Melba, Knickerbocker Glory and a Chocolate Monster.

Once prepared the sundaes were passed around the audience for sampling. One taster said: "It was very light and very nice and smooth" and a child in the audience declared: "It was yummy."

There are a number of other live cooking demonstrations taking place at the festival today.

At 1.45pm Cupcakes of Ramsey will be showing how to bake and decorate cupcakes and at 3pm it is the grand finale of the I Love Manx Chef of the Year.

The Food and Drink Festival is open until 5pm and takes place in the Villa Marina Gardens.
