It happened on the dancefloor in the Central Promenade, Douglas, club and the injured man was taken to Noble's Hospital's accident and emergency department and detained on a ward for further treatment.

Police said the injuries were quite serious but not life-threatening.

One man has been arrested.

Sergeant Andy Kneen said: "Although there was an early arrest in this case, and we have already spoken to some witnesses, we are keen to speak with anyone who was in the club and who saw any stage of the incident.

"The club was full of customers at the time of these events. Enquiries are continuing today conducted by staff from Douglas Neighbourhood Policing Team together with officers from CID."
