The Chief Minister will meet North Douglas MHKs Bill Henderson and John Houghton for a second time tomorrow (Monday) to discuss their concerns over the Island’s new bus service.
However, Tony Brown – who initially met the pair on Thursday - has made it clear he has full confidence in his Leisure Minister David Cretney and has dismissed suggestions he’s entered into negotiations with the two backbenchers.
At a meeting last week, arranged by Mr Houghton, around 150 members of the public called for the old timetable to be re-introduced and issued a vote of no confidence in Mr Cretney.
Although the Chief Minister has agreed to meet the two MHKs again, this time with Mr Cretney and relevant staff from the Minister’s Department, he says even after the meeting, it will still be for the Minister to consider whether he feels immediate changes are necessary.
He acknowledges although there are many beneficial changes in the new timetable, some issues will need further attention due to the scale of the alterations.
Mr Houghton says he’ll use tomorrow’s meeting to make it clear to Mr Cretney and the director of public transport, Ian Longworth, about the damage, extra costs and inconvenience already caused to bus users.
