The new managing director of Manx Gas says next month's price rises are beyond the company's control.
Tony Nicholls says the 5.5 per cent hike in natural gas and 7.6 per cent rise in mains LPG bills won't go down well, as winter approaches.
The Office of Fair Trading has asked the company for more information, to clarify the reasoning behind the increases..
Mr Nicholls says gas charges came down last year and, even after the price rise on October 8, the fuel will be cheaper than it was a year ago.
