New education staff welcomed by Minister

by isleofman.com 24th September 2010

NEW staff taking up positions within the Department of Education and Children have been welcomed by the Minister.

Eddie Teare MHK addressed new employees including teachers, college lecturers, education support staff, youth workers, caretakers, cleaners, civil servants and school meals staff.

He told the new employees that they were joining an impressive team whose hard work in delivering education would determine the future prosperity of the Island.

Mr Teare said: "In a large organisation such as the DEC there are always staff who leave to take up appointments elsewhere to further their careers and hence there will always be a need to recruit.

"However as each post falls vacant we undertake a full review to see whether the position is still relevant, or whether the duties can be split between other employees. Only after this will we decide to recruit. Those joining us bring a new perspective which, I am sure, will benefit education in the Island."

There are 28 new teachers taking up positions within the Department. 16 are newly qualified and many of them are graduates of the Isle of Man College and University of Chester Professional Graduate Certificate in Education.
