A member of the House of Keys believes the draft Oral Health Strategy may be used to 'softening up' the public for some fundamental changes in the provision or oral health care by the Manx government.
Rushen MHK Quintin Gill is drawing attention to a part of the document which asks whether such care should be 'symptomatic' or based on 'a long-term relationship between a patient and a dentist'.
He says if the symptomatic approach was adopted people would only get to see an NHS dentist if they had toothache, or some other issue which needed attention (play audio file):
Mr Gill is urging anybody with concerns about the future provision of dental health care by the Manx government to get involved in the consultation process.
Copies of the draft Oral Health Strategy document are available from the Department of Health and from gov.im, the website of the Isle of Man Government.
Submissions must be in by Monday, November 8.
