CROSBY sub Post Office will close this Friday.
The sub postmaster, Dennis Gelling, has decided to call it a day after 46 years and Isle of Man Post Office has been unable to find a replacement for him.
It brings to an end a long family tradition in Mr Gelling's family that dates back to 1891.
However, the Post Office said it would consider re-opening a sub post office in Crosby in future if someone shows an interest in running it.
Customers will now have to travel to Union Mills or St John's.
Mr Gelling took on the role of sub postmaster of Crosby Post Office on April 1, 1964 and since that day he has been greatly supported by his wife Do who has run the office with him.
Prior to Dennis becoming the sub postmaster, his aunt Beatrice Hill, had run the office since 1936 and before that his grandfather had been the sub postmaster since 1891.
Dennis and Do will close their doors for the final time on Friday.
Marty Quine, general manager of the retail network for Isle of Man Post Office said: "We are sad to see Dennis and Do retire but are extremely grateful to them for providing such a dedicated service for the Post Office for a period spanning 46 years.
"I am sure the community will miss the Gelling's local customer service and join with us in wishing them the very best for a healthy and happy retirement.
"Regrettably we have been unable to find a replacement to take over the agency despite advertising. However we are fully committed to continuing the agency if possible. If any interest is shown in the future to reopen a sub post office in the area, we would be delighted to consider it."
