Former member of Tynwald and current Ramsey commissioner Leonard Singer has become the latest member of the local authority to insist a new hotel is built in the town, before apartments are constructed on the site of the Grand Island Hotel.
Last week an application was made to demolish the former landmark building, which closed down early in 2009.
However, a condition means plans to build 68 apartments on the site shouldn't go ahead until a replacement hotel has been built between Mooragh Park and the promenade.
Chairman of the Ramsey board Nigel Malpass has already said the new hotel must come first, and Mr Singer says that makes sense given the importance of the Grand Island site:
