RESIDENTS have just under a month left to decide if they want to opt out of the new Manx Emergency Care Record system.
The MECR system is a summarised electronic record of key medical information for use in emergency situations.
It covers all Manx residents living in the Isle of Man who are registered with an Isle of Man GP.
The MECR will draw information from other Island based health care systems in an emergency. It will enable staff directly involved in treating a patient to have key information immediately to hand.
Normally this information could only by accessed with the person’s consent.
David Killip, chief executive officer for the Department of Health, said: "The leaflet has been out for several weeks now and there has been a very positive response from the public to this initiative.
"Whilst the commissioning of the system progresses well, the department would be grateful if any resident who does not wish to have a MECR makes their indications known on the opt out form and return it to their GP practice by the due date."
Anyone who wishes to opt out of the system should complete and return the opt out form to their GP practice by Wednesday, October 13.
Forms can be found here, from GP surgeries or by telephoning 01624 685967.
