ST Ninian's High School student Alison Ogden has won the Young Historian Award from the Spirit of Normandy Trust.
The award is a competition throughout the British Isles to find the best work in schools on the D-Day Landings.
Alison won the senior category of the award.
Her work - an essay on Pegasus Bridge - was considered outstanding by the judging panel. A member of the judging panel was the granddaughter of Major John Howard who the led the landing at Pegasus Bridge.
Katherine Blenkinsop, winner of the school’s Normandy Veterans Shield for the best work in Year 9 on World War Two, was also highly commended for her work on Bob Quayle who was one of eight Manx soldiers who landed at Arnhem in September 1944.
A number of other entries received certificates for their work on the Tell Me project.
A spokesman for the Douglas school said it is extremely proud of its close links with the Isle of Man Normandy Veteran's Association and the awards to Alison, 15, Katherine, 14, and the other St Ninian’s pupils is the culmination of this.
Alison and her mother will be attending the National Young Historians Awards at the Imperial War Museum in London next month.
