FOUR members of staff from the Department of Infrastructure’s Operations Division are celebrating after passing a leading certificate in construction.
Mark Ledsham, Rob Kelly, Kev Quine and Barbara Corkish passed their National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) which is known for its high failure rate.
The certificate develops and tests a student’s safety skills in three areas – the management of health and safety, controlling work place hazards and practical application.
The Operations Division ensures that the Government’s strategic assets are developed and maintained in a professional and safe manner. These include the plant and vehicles, harbours, airport, highways and property.
Graham Cregeen MHK who has responsibility for the division said: "The Minister and other members of the department were delighted by the success of the team.
"Many of the operations undertaken within the division are very hazardous and the management of the associated risks is always at the forefront of our thinking.
"We are committed to continuous improvement and the achievement of these certificates will help ensure our continued leadership in this area."
NEBOSH is aimed at supervisors, managers and construction, design and management coordinators within the construction industry who are required to ensure that activities are undertaken safely.
