'Aggressive atheists' remark refuted

The Freethinkers organisation in the Isle of Man is refuting any suggestion that Britain is dominated by 'widespread atheism'.

The comment was made by a senior papal aide in a German magazine, and was reported yesterday (Thursday) at the start of the first visit of a pope to the United Kingdom for 28 years.

Cardinal Walter Kasper pulled out of the trip because of illness, but has come under pressure to apologise for his remarks.

Secretary of the Freethinkers on the Island Jeff Garland says far from atheists being aggressive, the fighting talk is coming from Pope Benedict:
