The Freethinkers organisation in the Isle of Man is refuting any suggestion that Britain is dominated by 'widespread atheism'.
The comment was made by a senior papal aide in a German magazine, and was reported yesterday (Thursday) at the start of the first visit of a pope to the United Kingdom for 28 years.
Cardinal Walter Kasper pulled out of the trip because of illness, but has come under pressure to apologise for his remarks.
