THE Steam Packet vessel Snaefell has been taken out of service while a repair is carried out.
Customers on fast craft sailings have faced longer crossings for months as a result of engine problems to both the Manannan and Snaefell.
The Snaefell is now being repaired while the Manannan will continue to run on three out of four engines until the end of the fast craft season next month.
A Steam Packet spokesman said: "In line with the information provided in our engineering progress update 2 of July 28 Snaefell is now out of service while a repair is carried out.
"As indicated in that update it is anticipated that Snaefell will be back to full power by October. Manannan is continuing to cover Snaefell's scheduled sailings."
The Steam Packet said back in July that in order to minimise disruption to holidaymakers and other travellers, Manannan will continue to operate on three engines until the end of the fast craft season in October following which the engine will be removed for repair.
The alternative would have been to take the vessel out of service for a prolonged period resulting in the cancellation of a number of sailings.
Crossings to Liverpool on the Manannan have been generally 30 minutes longer.
