ENGLISH tenor Russell Watson, dubbed "The Voice" by fans, will perform in the Isle of Man tomorrow (Wednesday).
The self styled people’s tenor has sold millions of albums worldwide with his innovative trademark mixture of popular Italian arias and pop classics.
The singer who has won four Classical Brit Awards - Best Classical Debut Album, Male Artist of the Year and two for Best Classical Album – will play the Royal Hall in the Villa Marina.
Russell’s debut album The Voice, released in 2000, reached number five in the UK pop charts and broke worldwide records by holding the number one position in the classical chart for a year. It was only knocked off by his follow up album Encore.
Encore went multi-platinum in the UK staying at the number one spot in the classical chart for 30 weeks. It also achieved multi-platinum status in New Zealand and Ireland.
Each album he has since released has reached top ten status in the national UK album charts.
In 2007 Russell was diagnosed with two brain tumours. He finished radiotherapy in 2008 and is back to full health.
The singers combined pop and operatic style has won him many fans and he has performed for many influential people around the world. These include the King of Malaysia, The President of the United States and the Emperor of Japan.
The late Pope John Paul II also requested a private audience with Russell at the Vatican in Rome.
