Rig seeks shelter in Manx waters

by isleofman.com 14th September 2010

A RIG spotted off the coast of the Island is sheltering from poor weather.

Many residents may have spotted the rig and its tug boat, Kestrel, in Manx waters over the weekend.

Director of harbours Captain Michael Brew said the boat was not here working.

He said: "It’s a platform which is being used to construct a wind farm around Morecambe Bay.

"The rig is just sheltering as we’ve got some very windy changeable weather.

"We don’t expect it to come into Douglas Harbour. It will just lie and anchor in Ramsey Bay."

Kestrel has the flag of St Vincent Grenadines. It has a maximum speed of 5.8 knots and measures 36 metres in length and 13 metres in breadth.
